Meet the professionals - Sally at Phoenix Flowers

Writer: Helen MarksHelen Marks

1. Tell us a bit about the story behind your business.

Phoenix flowers started in 2009. I left a job in the NHS and retrained in floristry. I spent 5 years working from home, freelancing for other florists and then in 2014 I bought my shop in Ruddington. Since then we have gone from strength to strength and I now work with a brilliant team covering big events but also walk in bouquets.

2. What is your favourite thing about being a florist?

The people are everything. A lot of people ask about the change from NHS to floristry but I am still spending my day with people! I especially love the sense of community in Ruddington. They have a great network of small businesses too which all support each other. Market days are especially nice as the whole community come out and shop local.

(Ruddington market takes place the first saturday of every month. Find more details at https://www.ruddingtonvillagemarket.co.uk or find them on facebook @ruddingtonvillagemarket)

3. What's your favourite flower?

I am often asked this! The truth is I love them all but I think the world would be a sad place without a rose.

4. What is your Top-Tip for couples choosing a Florist for their wedding?

Meet them in person and be comfortable they are on your wavelength.

Recommendations and reviews are great as a starting point but make sure you really click with them. Also be realistic when it comes to your budget - instagram & pinterest are great but often what you see costs more than you expect.
